Black Coffee

If Delta Moon‘s northeastern tour has been a whirlwind, I’m sitting now in the eye of it, in a New England bookstore, behind a bagel and a cup of black coffee. The other guys are asleep in the hotel across the street.

Our shows and recording sessions this trip have gone great so far, and we’ve made a lot of new friends. Our visit last week with Bill Wax of Bluesville at SiriusXM in Washington, DC, was a blast. SiriusXM is housed in an ancient brick complex, once the printing plant of National Geographic. The concrete floors were built ridiculously thick to support those giant presses. Today they hold rooms and rooms of state-of-the-art electronic gear, a first class recording studio and an excellent coffee machine. We had hoped to cut four or five songs in our allotted time there. We got eight.

Between shows last week we cut a few new songs at the Loft studio in Bronxville, New York. Thanks to engineer Al Hemberger for making that such a pleasant experience.

The Best Line of the Trip So Far Award goes to Franher, for this exchange in a Mexican restaurant:

DARREN: You always get the number one.

FRANHER: You are what you eat.

We plan to record a live show this Wednesday at Nectar’s in Burlington, Vermont. Then, after working Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, we’ll head home, like the song says:

I left New York City heading south on 95.
I left New York City heading south on 95.
I was drinking black coffee, Lord, just to stay alive.

    Hi Tom,

Live show recording tomorrow? Great idea… Can I have a request?
“Stuck In Carolina” for all your european fans that are stuck here and can’t fly over to see you? Yes, I know, it’s only been a few months. But we miss you anyway!

So have another black coffee, stay alive and have fun!
    Nothing compares to You:-))

    Hi Tina,

Thanks very much. We’ll do it. We hope to record a few more shows in the next month or two and have a live CD for you when we get back to Europe in the spring.

Hi Anne, aww, you’re sweet to say that. It’s true, though, when there is some great stuff out there–you want to read and comment on it all. Unfortunately, us writers can’t logically do that if we ever want to finish our books! Hopefully you’ll start winning your balancing act.

Thanks to YOU (for the song)!

(and I thank God for the asparagus, again, haha)

This Live CD will be another highlight, I’m sure.

    Lots of Love,
