Writing in the Studio

There are many ways to write a song. Sometimes you have to work hard and sometimes songs just come to you out of thin air. Often those are the best. But if you’re not working hard already, you don’t get the free stuff. You have to be ready for it. As Captain Beefheart once said, “Your guitar is not a guitar. It’s a divining rod.”

I’m singing nonsense in this clip. At least it seemed so to me at the time. Now I can hear lyrics plainly, and some of them even make sense. We can make this a real song. Stay tuned.

Thanks for the peek inside the process. My son is a recording industry major, and I know that he will be interested. We’ll be at Shorty’s tonight!
